First Impressions March 10, 2008

24 is not a number I expected to associate with the honours program. But it’s one that I’ve had to aclimatise to during the week after unexpectantly being confronted with two dozen students in our introductory Communication Revolutions class.

The size of the honours cohort is the first thing that struck me. I had been under the impression there was only a limited number of spots available but the program has obviously accommodated for more.
Communication Revolutions seems to be a further extension of some of the communication theory courses I’ve undertaken during my degree. Much of the introductory material is familiar to me but I suspect there will be intense scrutiny of communication theory as we delve further into the semester.
In terms of a project idea, I haven’t got past the self-criticisms of my own ideas. But the list of existing projects has reignited some enthusiasm in me. I’ve taken a particular fancying to the Stories from the Waterfront project listed in the program. Hopefully, I can arrange a meeting with its designer in the near future.
On a social level, it’s comforting to have a handful of familiar people in the course but I look forward to meeting the other students undertaking the honours program.
